Are You Ready for 1st Grade Game Show – Summer Fun but Educational

Disclosure: I received the item below to facilitate my review. All opinions stated here are my own.
School is almost out here in Florida which means Summer vacation! My son will be attending a Science and Technology camp run by the city. He loves exploring and learning new things so I knew it would be perfect. My only concern was having some educational products that will help him while he is out of school. I want to reinforce what he has learned throughout the year. Lakeshore Learning offers a variety of educational toys and games to help kids learn while still having fun.

We know that each child is unique, and we strive to develop materials that appeal to children of all interests, backgrounds and abilities.

lakeshore3The game setup was pretty easy. You receive the game stand, card tray holder (to place correct cards answered and incorrect cards), play money, 198 question cards, awards, and score card. The main question cards are broken up into $1, $2, and $3. The challenger cards are worth $5 if correctly answered. My son was reluctant to play because he thought he wouldn’t know any of the answers. I encouraged him to play as I know he is brighter than he thinks he is. He was able to correctly answer the first few cards with no hesitation, that’s when he got excited. He enjoyed the game so much that we ended up playing two rounds.

lakeshore8The game show game has your little contestant answering questions on language and Math. The questions were right on for things he has been learning in school. Basic addition and subtraction, word recognition, counting in the higher number range, and many more.

lakeshore4Once the game is complete take your child’s score sheet and log on to the Lakeshore Learning website. Enter the game card number into the designated area and see what your child needs help with. My son got 6 questions wrong so I went to the Lakeshore Learning website, clicked on the “Are you Ready? Games” area, pulled up his game, entered the answers he got wrong and I received a list of printable activity sheets to help him with those skills. lakeshore9I enjoyed playing with my son and it really helped me see what areas he is struggling with. It is something I can work on with him this Summer. The game show game made it fun for him to learn instead of sitting down doing multiple pages of a workbook. The game is more interactive. If you have a school age kid I definitely recommend it for an educational Summer fun item.
