Wouldn’t it be great to find a toy where our kids can have fun and learn essential skills? Sometimes it is difficult to find a product that meets both criteria. I am always looking for companies that look beyond just having an item that is “fun”. Why not incorporate problem solving skills, coordination, and critical thinking skills? PlaSmart Inc. is a global toy distributor that chooses products that are smart, simple, and fun. It seeks out interesting, one-of-a-kind toys that meet its ‘smart and simple’ philosophy and avoids toys that are difficult to understand or operate.
PlaSmart has a line of products that promote creating, moving, and playing. I was given the opportunity to review a game called, Hiccups. Hiccups is recommended for kids age 6+ though my son is 5 years old, he was able to follow the rules of the game with no problem. The objective of the game is to get the red ball into each numbered cup. The cups are sequential from numbers 1 through 8. If you miss a cup, you must start all over. The game is definitely challenging but so much fun! Hiccups really makes you think because you have to determine how fast to turn the ball – turn it to quick and you may miss the next cup. My son and I had fun competing against each other – Who can get the ball into the most cups? Definitely a fun and stimulating game that can be enjoyed by the whole family!
PlaSmart sent me one of their creative items called, Scribble Down. Scribble Down are transfer packs that allow children to be creative by designing their own scene. They offer different scenes, such as, Enchanted Castle, Alien Encounters, Knight School, and their newest pack design which has also been awarded a commendation in the Independent Toy Shop Awards 2013, Polar Explorers. To facilitate my review I was sent Pirate Adventure. Each pack comes with a background that pertains to a theme and a transfer sheet. My son loved the ease of adding different elements to his background (just rub a pen or pencil over the image you want to make it magically appear on the background!). While he was working on his picture I would hear him saying, “arghh” and “ahoy matey”. He was telling his own story based on the picture he was creating. It is nice to know that he is able to use his imagination and pretend to be a pirate. Scribble Down is ideal for on-the-go trips or to entertain kids while waiting at the doctor’s office. The perfect stocking stuffer for the Holidays!
