Disclosure: I received the below DVD to facilitate my review. All opinions stated here are my own.
Sesame Street has always been a television show I trust when it comes to my kids getting TV time. My little toddler loves Elmo. When she needs some quiet time I’ll let her watch an episode. Every time Elmo comes on the screen you’ll hear her shout, “ELMO there”. So cute! The Sesame Street gang is back with a new DVD titled, Monster Manners. The DVD features celebrity appearances from Zac Efron, Henry Cavill, David Hyde Pierce, Cobie Smulders, and Colbie Caillat who help teach kids manners.
Teaching our kids manners is important for them. They will be using those lessons throughout their life – attending school, playing in the park, or just being at home. The characters in the show each face a dilemma. Can Rosita control her emotions and keep her hands to herself? Will Prairie help Cookie Monster master polite table manners and can Cookie stop himself and not gobble all the cookies when a Cookie Connoisseur (David Hyde Pierce) visits Sesame Street? All of these questions will be answered in the new DVD. The songs are catchy and the dialogue is easy for my little two year old to understand.
One night my daughter and I sat down to watch the DVD together. I loved the lesson she learned. My daughter has picked up manners pretty quickly but I have seen her use many of the messages the video is teaching. If I tell her to share her cookie or apples with her brother, she does it with no whining. She usually is whacking her big brother when he takes something from her but lately she has been saying, “please play”. I am happy to let her watch a television program that is educational and engaging for her. She danced and sang throughout the video. I was happy to see that she is enjoying herself while still learning an important lesson on manners.
