The Microsoft Store Training Session

microsoft-store5
We learned all the different services that the Microsoft Store offers to those that may need additional assistance in my previous post. I knew the services offered would be beneficial to my mom who has difficulties navigating the computer. Sometimes it was difficult for me to explain to her what needed to be done to accomplish what she wanted. The one-on-one training offered at the Microsoft Store was exactly what we both needed to alleviate the stress we both felt.

The training was a great success. My mom whose first language is Spanish was able to get some one-on-one training. I knew when I gave her the new Dell Inspiron with Windows 10 she would need some help learning the new operating system. The staff in the Microsoft store were so helpful from the moment we walked in. We quickly checked in and were immediately escorted to the training area. I left my mom with the trainer to have her one-on-one.

The Dell Inspiron with Windows 10 was totally new to my mom so navigating through the start menu was her #1 concern. She wanted to be able to get to the places without asking my dad. The trainer walked her through all the different areas – accessing the Microsoft Edge, using Cortana, and getting to her email. She even got her own email address!

The Windows 10 operating system has different apps that can be customized for the best user experience. The trainer showed her how to find the apps that are helpful to her and how to save them to her menu. She was able to learn how to add reminders about upcoming appointments and events.

The one-on-one training really changed her experience on the computer, I don’t think she realized how much she can do. Now my mom doesn’t need 5,000 shortcuts on the desktop. She can easily find exactly what she is looking for without flooding the desktop with different shortcuts.

Having someone at the Microsoft store helping her learn how to use her new laptop was priceless. I can see how confident my mom feels when using the laptop. There were many times that she would get frustrated because she couldn’t figure out how to open something. I now feel comfortable knowing she can use the computer with ease. Having someone who was able to talk to her in Spanish was great too – many times she understands instructions better in Spanish then English. Having training offered in Spanish is a great for those that want to learn but can’t understand instructions in English.

What types of training services will you be seeking at the Microsoft Store?

I would need every training service they have. I want to buy my son a laptop for christmas and I have no idea how to use windows anymore… I had to help my Ex boyfriend and I was SO lost! Haha. I have always loved my Windows computers, I just had to switch for school and then windows 10 came out and it was a totally different ball game.

Haha yes indeed sometimes teaching our parents is as difficult as it was for them to teach us. Something about having a third party that is not emotionally involved helps tons! Its pretty cool that Microsoft offers this service to their customers!

Is the session for free or does it require a fee per person? Is this Microsoft training open to everyone or it’s just by invitation?

Shortcuts help a lot to maximize time and be efficient when looking for applications and files.

It’s about time Microsoft started doing this. I’m not the most computer savvy person and seven years ago, I finally got fed up with dealing with PC issues and not having the support I needed, so I bought Macbook Pro and never looked back. The Genius Bar has helped me out so many times! If Microsoft had been doing this back then, I’d probably still be using their products, but now I’ll never switch back from my Mac.

I think it is so neat (and definitely much needed!) that Microsoft has a brick and mortar store. There is only so much that you can learn from a sales rep from a big-box store. With technology use on the rise, the older generation that hasn’t grown up with them need a place to go to learn how to use them.

This is a great service! I know I’m pretty tech savvy but I’m still learning new things every day. I’m lucky that my husband is a techy, so he always helps me out!

This is a great service that they offer. With so many advancements and changes that come with electronics it is nice that they offer a place for people to learn how to use the systems that they have. Also hands on learning is easier for most people to learn.

I like to go on their training for Advanced Microsoft Office applications. As we always used it at work, it would be nice if you learn the advanced technique and learn new ways to make your job easy and effective. I wonder how much it will cost or if there is any program that provides discount.
