bts1The hustle and bustle of back to school is in full swing. The first day of school was Monday and my son was starting the first grade. Time surely does fly! I can’t believe my baby boy is 6 years old attending the first grade in a new school this year. I wanted to hear all about his first day so I prepared some after school snacks for when he got home. I love easy to make snacks such as Bagel Bites and Delimex.

bts2I prepared for my sons arrival by setting up our table with his favorite Bagel Bites and Delimex taquitos. I had his favorite juice and a variety of dipping sauces. I love that Bagel Bites is made with real cheese and homemade sauce with 0g trans fat.   My son loves to dip his taquitos in sour cream and his Bagel Bites in extra tomato sauce. I wanted to make his first day of school special. I decorated our dining table with new school supplies I got him.

bts3My son tends to respond to questions with one answer. For example, if I ask him how his day was – he’ll respond with “good”. No further explanation, just “good”. I have to keep prompting him for answers. I decided to write down some questions to ask for his first day of school hoping it’ll prompt more than a one word answer.

questionsI tried to keep the questions simple enough so he can understand them. It was also a good way for him to practice his reading, I tried to include some of his Kindergarten sight words.

bts4When he arrived we sat down for some one on one chatting while enjoying our #AfterSchoolSnacks from Bagel Bites and Delimex. He was actually very excited to share his day with me. We went through all the questions with him actually giving me more than one word answers (woo hoo!). He had a wonderful first day of school and couldn’t wait to get back to school the next day. Exactly what I wanted to hear!

Some great questions to ask kids about their day at school. I love asking mine if they learned anything that thought was cool. My two oldest could go on and on about their favorite things about school. Not so much the youngest.

Shelly, I loved being able to sit and talk to him. He is usually very brief but the little set up really got him excited to open up!
